The importance of “We can do it” is within its impact on the American Homefront and femininity in WWII and today. The poster had the intent to bring in a relatively new demographic into the WWII effort: women to work in factories that produced weapons. Which it succeeded at doing in its time, shown in the increase of women in the work force. That specific industry is evident in the occupation of the woman on the poster- Rosie the Riveter. There was an earlier draft of Rosie the Riveter before the iconic poster we know today, and the reason why it failed to pull in its audience is due to its lack of appeals towards the idealist ideas of women by society and themselves. This version of Rosie was accepted because it did something its predecessor didn't, showed women maintaining feminine ideals and beauty while working and contributing to their country, which is why it was successful. Women can still be who they are but change to be stronger and united to help the men overseas. This reflected the Key period because in times of war, the role of individuals change. As men left to fight the World Wars, women were left behind in the American home front to take care of the home and provide for themselves. The encouragement and persuasion with the use of "we can do it" united women as "we" and showed hope to end the war in Ally victory with the the help of women's aid in working these jobs. Now, beyond this key period this image is still widely recognized as an image linked to feminism and overall female empowerment.
